Joseph Millworks windows and doors are hand crafted to your design and choice of material to match any architectural style or historic restoration.
We offer our clients the opportunity to have built exactly what they require, from custom entries, to new traditional windows, to historic restorations.
Quite simply, we build doors and windows like they used to, with mortice and tenon construction, and true divided lites. We have found the mortice and tenon joint to be the strongest and most reliable for this type of construction.
At Joseph Millworks, we respect old doors and windows for their superior craftsmanship, materials, and beauty. In fact all that we do currently is based on the same time-tested, age-old designs. However, there is one aspect where older doors and windows often do not hold up; thermal efficiency. We often receive inquiries from owners of craftsman style bungalows (among other styles) wondering how to solve this problem.
Luckily, we have a solution for those of you who appreciate the original doors and windows but would also like to have a well insulated home. We are able to build custom storm windows with insulated glass and weatherstripping that, in combination with your original windows, will often outperform a new insulated window.
Our custom made storm doors and windows are from close grain cedar or fir and can be divided to match the existing window divisions.
We also build storm doors with removable insulated glass inserts that can be interchanged with a screened insert for the summer.
From the lightest summertime screen door, to a full entryway, we make each door or window to withstand a lifetime of use, while maintaining its structural integrity and beauty.
We work primarily with recycled, old growth Douglas fir. This is an excellent wood for the construction of windows and doors, with a long and successful history in this application. We also work in other North American woods, providing that we are satisfied with their availability, and harvesting practices.
